Man killed in Durkeeville, neighbors say violence has to stop

Neighbors are reacting to a shooting that killed a young man in Jacksonville Saturday afternoon.

Police say the man was shot Saturday evening, on West 17th Street.

The shooting has a lot of people in the Durkeeville neighborhood, upset and right now hurting.

They say the violence has to stop.

Action News Jax cameras were there as police blocked off several parts of the Durkeeville community, Saturday afternoon.

Police say a man in his early 20’s was shot and killed on West 17th Street.

It happened around 3:30 p.m., when police got the call about gun shots. When they got to the scene, the body was lying on the ground.

We talked to Latorie Williams, her son is friends with the victim, “He’s not doing well at all. They just took him in for questioning, to see what maybe he knew. It’s just a really sad time, I mean, it’s just so much, killing, it’s always sad when a life is taken.”

Police say they are not releasing the victims his name until family is notified and as of now they don’t have any suspects or eyewitnesses.
