Body of missing Brunswick fisherman identified as sheriff's deputy

BRUNSWICK, GA — Brunswick Police have identified the missing fisherman whose body was recovered in a creek Saturday as Glynn County Sheriff's Deputy Walter "Ray" Starling.

The 67 year old was reported missing Friday night when he didn't return from a fishing outing off of Homer Wilson Way near the Brunswick Marina Boat Yard.

Starling was also a retired police captain with the Glynn County Police Department.

His body was recovered from Academy Creek at about 9:30 a.m. Saturday following an all-night search by multiple agencies including the Brunswick Police Department, Glynn County Sheriff's Office, Glynn County Emergency Management and the Georgia Department of Natural Resources.

Captain Angela Smith of the Brunswick Police Department says the investigation continues into how Lloyd ended up in the water.
