St. Johns County deputies are looking for a 15-year-old girl who's been missing since Sunday night.

At first, Carly Grimes was considered a runaway, but new information makes investigators think she could be in danger.

The reason the sheriff’s office said it did not alert the public about Carly until Thursday is that a friend just came forward on Wednesday with social media messages from Carly, from before her disappearance, that deputies call “concerning.”

The incident report said Carly’s father told deputies he was awakened by the family dog in the middle of the night and that’s when he discovered a note from Carly.

The report said Carly’s note said that she will be staying with a friend and plans to get a job.

The police report also reveals that Carly has a history of meeting up with people she’s met on the internet.

“You are lurking into the unknown. You don’t know what that person is about. You don’t know what they’re having in mind to do. But we know what can happen. The ultimate can happen. You can be abducted. You can be sexually assaulted. You can be killed,” said Action News Jax crime and safety expert Ken Jefferson.

Carly’s father told deputies that this is her first time running away but she has threatened to run away many times in the past.

Jefferson said the fact that Carly has not had any known communication with friends or family since her disappearance is a red flag.

“Sometimes, you know, in situations like this, they’ll reach out to a friend or someone they feel like they can confide in. And that friend will just call the loved ones and say, 'Hey, I heard from her. She’s OK. She just wants to be alone right now.' But none of that has actually happened,” said Jefferson.

Carly has dirty blond hair, brown eyes and braces. She was last seen wearing a grey sweatshirt and grey shorts.
