Mother of Julington Creek Plantation Park attack victim offers reward

The mother of a woman who was beaten at Julington Creek Plantation Park is hoping to catch the attacker by putting up reward fliers.

Her daughter reported to the St. Johns County Sheriff’s Office on Jan. 17 that she had been beaten repeatedly over the head by a stranger as she left a park bathroom.

A passerby walking her dog found her covered in blood and called 911.

Both said the attacker was a young man, possibly high school age, wearing a black hoodie.

Her mother, Brenda, who wanted to be identified only by her first name for her daughter’s safety, posted nearly 200 fliers on Tuesday night offering a reward for information that leads to the attacker’s arrest.

“There are no words to say what went through my mind. I couldn’t hardly breathe,” said Brenda. “He would have kept beating on her, no doubt, until she was dead. She really feels he would have ended up killing her.”

He ran away when her daughter screamed for help.

“We wanted this psycho that’s out there to know that the family, we are going to participate in this as much as we can to get as much information out there as we can to everyone,” said Brenda.

Her flier promises that tipsters can remain anonymous.

It says to call the sheriff's office or send a message to rewardinfo@usa.com, an email address that Brenda said goes directly to her other daughter.

“I just want to say to the person out there that I’m praying for you, and praying that God will convict you in your heart, and that you will come forward,’ said Brenda.

A St. Johns County Sheriff’s Office spokesman said the only way a tipster is guaranteed to stay anonymous and be eligible for a reward is to call Northeast Florida Crime Stoppers at 1-888-277-TIPS.
