Mother of slain model from Jacksonville fears for family's safety

The mother of a model from Jacksonville who was murdered in Atlanta is dealing with the pain of losing a child for the second time in six months.

Actress and model Jokisha Brown was shot and killed while sitting in her car in Atlanta the day before her 36th birthday.

“It’s tough,” said Jokisha Brown’s mother, who did not want to be named because her daughter's killer has not been arrested.

Tough and right now, unbearable to deal with, she said.

”Whoever did this to Jokisha, could find me. Could find some of my family members,” said Brown’s mother.

She spoke with Action News Jax exclusively right after she saw her daughter's body on Tuesday.

“The way she got killed, it’s kind of suspicious to me," she said. "It makes me wonder, was it a hit out on her life?”

She said the pain is something she has dealt with recently, when her son was shot and killed outside a Jacksonville club.

Action News Jax spoke with Jokisha Brown after her brother Marlon Brown was killed trying to break up a fight outside The Silver Fox Club.

"I done been through this already with my son back on March the 2nd when he got killed and now it's my daughter Jokisha," said Brown's mother.

She said she hasn't been able to stop crying since Saturday.

Three GoFundMe accounts were set up claiming connection to Jokisha Brown but family says only one account is directly linked to the family.

One of the accounts not linked to the family has raised more than $15,000.

“Why would someone do that?" she said. "I haven’t got a dime, I haven’t received nothing, I never knew nothing about none of them, only one."

Beverly McClain with families of Slain Children says she has helped families whose loved ones were murdered for years but has never heard of anything like this.

“You got nerve enough to take the money that somebody donated to bury somebody with," said Brown's mother. "Law enforcement need to check out this.”

Action News Jax Law and Safety Expert Dale Carson said these accounts could be fraud and if caught, the creator could face fines and jail time.
