Mother searches for answers in death of Jacksonville minister

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Community members walked the streets Saturday and demanded answers in the death of a Jacksonville music minister.

M.A.D. D.A.D.S walked the area in Grand Park where 22-year-old Jerry Brown was killed in a drive-by shooting.

Brown's mother, Jessie Denise Green, walked with the group.

“I just want the person that shot my son just please turn yourself in. That’s all I want,” said Jessie Green.

Brown was sitting in a car parked outside of his aunt’s house in Grand Park when someone drove by and opened fire Jan. 28.

"We got to catch them and show that, hey, if you do the crime you get caught. This is about peace, bringing everyone together," said Brown's cousin Chevie Green.

Brown’s cousin sold shirts to raise money for a reward to find his killer.

Others handed out fliers and spoke with people who might know something about the shooting.

The neighborhood walk was organized by M.A.D. D.A.D.S, a Jacksonville advocacy group.

President Donald Foy said people don’t speak up out of fear of retaliation.

“They know there could be retaliation and that’s why crime stoppers is on here. What we encourage them to do is call Crime Stoppers,” said Foy.

Brown was a minister and lead singer in his church choir. His family said singing was something he loved to do.

“My son was a Christian person. He went to church, that’s all he did was church and work. That’s all he ever did his whole life,” said Jessie Green.

A celebration of Brown’s life will be held on his birthday, Feb. 16.,  at Hemming Park at 6 p.m.

Action News Jax is told Mayor Lenny Curry, the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office and other elected officials will attend.

The event will celebrate Brown’s birthday and bring awareness about crime in our community.

Anyone who has any information in regard to this incident is asked to contact crime stoppers Crime Stoppers at 866-845-TIPS.
