Police: Man with autism followed home from Walmart, killed

ST. JOHNS COUNTY, Fla. — Carl Starke, 36, who had autism, was murdered Tuesday night at the Vista Cove Condos.

His sister, Carli Durden says her brother was an amazing person.

"We want everyone to know that he never had an enemy and had the purest heart," Durden said.

Police say Starke was on his way home from the store to see his mother. That's when he was followed by a group of teenagers who wanted to steal his car.

Durden says her brother was loved by everyone.

"The loss our family has suffered doesn't make sense. It is something that you never expect to happen and that no one can prepare you for," Durden said.

Kevin Williams, 17, and Christopher O'Neal, 16, have been arrested and charged with murder.

Police say there are also three other persons of interest. One of whom is in the hospital after a car chase that occurred Wednesday.

Williams and O'Neal were arrested after that chase ended with a manhunt through a wooded area.

Lt. Mark Ochkie with the St. Johns County Sheriff's Office said they took the suspects into custody Wednesday.

"[We] were able to apprehend them without incident. They were wore out and tired. They had been running in the woods," Ochkie said.

Now the two teens are behind bars and police say more charges and arrests are possible.

Durden says her family just wants some closure.

"Our beloved Carl was taken from us too soon," Durden said.
