Neighbor petitions to have 3 dogs removed from Middleburg neighborhood

A woman started a petition to have three dogs removed from a Middleburg neighborhood, but the dog owner says they are not dangerous.

As of Friday night, more than 100 people signed the petition that claims the dogs are vicious.

Maureen Shulenburg makes it very clear how she feels about her neighbor’s three bullshire terriers.

She claims one dog attacked and killed her 7-year-old Chihuahua.

"This particular dog is vicious, because if you would have seen the way it had no fear with me and my dog, and it snatched it like it was a squirrel," Schulenburg said.

A poster is planted in her yard that reads “vicious killer” and lists the owner’s address.

Action News Jax reporter Danielle Avitable met the dogs and their owner, Sallie Parmer.

She said her dogs haven’t caused any problems.

"These dogs have never aggressed a child. They’ve never aggressed anybody," Parmer said.

A report from the Clay County Sheriff’s Office says there have been complaints about the dogs attacking other animals.

"Animal control has already come out and deemed them non-aggressive," Parmer said.

Shulenberg created the petition to get the dogs removed on Monday.

The plan is to bring the petition to a formal hearing.

"What they're telling us now is that the dog has to be deemed dangerous," Shulenberg said. "So in order for that to happen, it will go to hearing."

Shulenberg said she’s been calling animal control every day for the past two weeks.

She said animal control told her they can’t do anything unless the dogs attack a person.
