Officer involved shooting investigation in St. Johns County

ST. JOHNS COUNTY, Fla. — Two offiicers were suspended after a shooting incident St. Johns County.

The St. Johns County Sheriff’s Office major crimes unit was called to a residence on Race Track Road off State Road 16 early Saturday morning to investigate an officer-involved shooting.

Deputies with the Sheriff's Office originally responded to a report of a domestic disturbance involving shots being fired at the residence.

According to the female victim, the male suspect, Aaron Ray, 43, barricaded himself inside the home located in the 2600 block of Race Track Road.

Deputies tell Action News while they were establishing a perimeter they encountered the armed suspect, who refused to drop the weapon, and shots were fired.

Officers say the deputies attempted to render aid before St. Johns County Fire/Rescue personnel arrived.

According to police, the shooting resulted in the death of Ray. The two deputies were not injured. 

Two members of the sheriff's office SWAT, Cpl Shawn Emert and Deputy Jason Kroul, were placed on administrative leave.
