Photo shows how close shotgun blast came to Southside Jacksonville toddler's crib

The mother of a toddler shot in the leg while she was sleeping posted a photo on Facebook, showing just how close a stray shotgun blast came to her 2-year-old's pink crib when it burst through her bedroom wall.

It happened Monday night at the Villages at Baymeadows apartments.

Austin Blosser, who told the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office he accidentally fired the gun, told Action News Jax he is very shaken up.

He lives in the unit right next door to the toddler who was injured.

“I hope she’s OK,” said Blosser’s roommate Cody Adams, who was there when the gun went off.

Adams said it was an accident.

“He had no idea that the guns were loaded. I guess his buddy loaded up the guns before he gave them back to him. And while he was putting the shotgun back in the sleeve, he accidentally pulled the trigger and shot across the room,” Adams said.

Adams said he and Blosser waited outside for police to arrive.

“We were both in shock. I mean, what we did is we went over there to see if everything’s OK. Because like I said, it was a complete accident,” Blosser said.

The JSO report said the girl was treated at the apartment and did not need to be transported to the hospital.

“She knows she has a boo boo on her leg but she is getting around great,” said the girl’s mother, Tammy Kreski.

JSO has not said whether Blosser will face criminal charges.
