Employee killed in workplace shooting near Avenues Mall

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Officers said one employee is in custody and another is dead after the second workplace shooting in the area this week.

Police said a man was arrested a few blocks from B&L Landscaping on Spaner Road after officers found an employee dead at the business around 7 a.m.

Officers said people were getting to work as the shooting happened.

Witnesses said they saw another employee come out of the business with a gun and tell the shooter to drop the weapon.

The shooter then walked away like nothing happened, according to witnesses.

A man who was dropping off his mother-in-law said it happened near a storage shed where the company stores equipment.

Jacksonville Sheriff's Office said the victim and suspect had an employee-employer relationship.

Witnesses tell us the victim was a supervisor who had been there since the 1980s. Action News Jax is still working to confirm these details with officials.

Action News Jax spoke with a co-owner of the business but he was not yet ready to talk.

Police arrested the shooter without incident a few blocks away.

JSO said the area is safe. The investigation is ongoing.
