The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office is investigating after a body was found in Northwest Jacksonville early Saturday morning.
Police were called to the 3000 block of West 19th Street around 7 a.m. A neighbor saw the body while he was getting ready to leave for work.
When police got to the area, they found what appeared to be the body of a young man in the woods next to railroad tracks.
“I’ve thought about that before. When the train goes by, something bad would happen,” said neighbor Kayla Jones.
The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office says the body was that of a young man in his early 20’s.
“I was standing right here and I saw him,” said Justin Johnson, who lives down the road. “I think he had on a red shirt.”
Investigators canvassed the crime scene all morning.
Police are investigating it as a homicide and said the body may have been dumped overnight.
Neighbors said they didn’t hear anything suspicious.
