Two children dead due to unknown causes in Southside Estates neighborhood

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office reported two children have died due to unknown causes in the Southside Estates neighborhood at 2100 Cromwell Rd.

This is just west of Interstate 295 and St. Johns Bluff Road.

According to JSO, at around 12:00 p.m., officers and the Jacksonville Fire Rescue Department responded to the scene in reference to a medical emergency involving two 4-year-old children.

When arriving, officers located who children who were unresponsive. Life-saving efforts were performed, but unfortunately, both children were pronounced deceased.

The Homicide Unit and Crime Scene Unit responded and it is still very early in the investigation. Information confined by JSO reports that both children were playing inside a home, and when checked on both were found unresponsive.

At this time, there were adults and other children inside the home at the time of the incident. All are currently being interviewed.

JSO is currently working the partners at the Medical Examiner’s Office to determine the cause of the deaths. At this time it is not certain if the deaths are due to an accident or foul play is involved.
