Police: 22-year-old man identified in Jacksonville Southside deadly shooting

A 22-year-old Jacksonville man was killed after a dispute between neighbors in a Southside neighborhood, officials said.

Jacksonville Sheriff's Office said Keegan Von Roberts was killed in the 3500 block of Peach Drive at 12:30 a.m. Thursday

Von Roberts was dead when officers arrived at the scene.

Family members of Von Roberts said he left behind a pregnant wife and a young daughter.

Police interviewed witnesses and the suspected shooter, who has not been identified, Thursday morning.

No arrest has been made, but one man is detained and being questioned in connection to the shooting, police said.

Police said the shooting happened in the street, which is city property.

One woman told Action News Jax she heard lots of yelling then three gunshots.

Detectives have not said what the two men were fighting about, just that there was an ongoing dispute.

Action News Jax Law and Safety Expert Dale Carson said investigators are looking into whether the shooter had any grounds for self defense.

Carson said it is not usual for neighbors to have conflicts, but it's how they are handled that matters.

He said the state attorney's office will have to prove beyond a reasonable doubt that the shooting was not self defense.

"Everyone has the right to be in the street, but you don't have the right to be in the street being an aggressor," Carson said.

Carson said the best thing people can do in a situation like this is go back to their house and call the police.
