Rep. Corrine Brown misses more than three weeks' worth of votes

Rep. Corrine Brown is still in office, but you wouldn't know it if you looked at her recent voting record.

She hadn't voted on any legislation in more than three weeks until Thursday. Action News Jax found out Brown is shutting down more than her political activity.

We stopped by Brown's office in Jacksonville and although she's still a member of Congress, we found out her office is closed.

Thursday was the first time in three weeks Brown voted on legislation. In the weeks before that we found out she was largely absent, Action News Jax went through House roll call vote tallies and found Brown had missed 38 votes in a row since Nov. 16.

"The problem is, when you don't have your member of Congress show up to vote, you don't have representation in Congress," said Meredith McGehee of the Campaign Legal Center.

After two decades in office, Brown lost re-election in the primaries after redistricting. She's also in the middle of a legal battle after being criminally indicted on conspiracy and fraud charges.

But she's still a member of Congress right now, and likely still collecting her $174,000 salary.

"I think every member who's duly sworn in and serving has an obligation to the constituents to show up and vote. Because it's the only way that their constituents have a voice in the decision making process," McGehee said.

We tried calling her D.C. office multiple times, but got a busy signal each time.

We checked Brown's official Facebook page, but the last post was on Aug. 26, which was days before she was defeated in the primaries. As for her Twitter page, we found out it's been shut down.
