LATEST: 911 call reveals moments after man tried to kidnap girl in Sonny's BBQ bathroom

A 40-year-old man was arrested after he attacked and tried to take an 11-year-old girl from the women's restroom at Sonny's BBQ in Brunswick, a police report said.

The Glynn County Police Department said the attempted abduction happened Saturday afternoon at Sonny's BBQ at 5328 New Jesup Highway.

John Schuler, 40, of Waycross, was arrested inside the restaurant.

Police said he grabbed the girl around the mouth and throat and tried to subdue her. She screamed and ran out of the bathroom, police said.

Schuler is charged with aggravated assault, false imprisonment and enticing a child for indecent purposes.

Action News Jax found records that show Schuler is a registered sex offender who was convicted of child molestation in 2008.

Father and Sonny's customer Scott Duva said you have to look out for your family.

"These days and times, the world has changed a lot. And I believe you have to protect your own self and families and be vigilant of what you're doing and who's around you at all times," Duva said.

The girl screamed and fought off the man in the bathroom of the Brunswick restaurant, police said:
