Lock down at schools lifted after two shot, killed in West Augustine

Regular dismissal procedures are underway after two shootings put seven schools on a soft lock down Tuesday in St. Johns County.

A woman was shot and killed while holding a child and a man was found dead after two shootings in West Augustine.

The schools were on lock down as police searched for two suspects in a stolen 2001 maroon 4-door Ford Contour with a Florida tag.

Detectives said the men are considered armed and dangerous.

One person was taken to the hospital with a bullet wound and another was hospitalized for precautionary reasons after the shootings.

One shooting happened at Duval and W. 4th Street and the other was in the area of Rollins and Dr. R.B. Hayling Place.

The St. Johns County School Board said schools are now following regular dismissal procedures but parents should expect delays.

Murray Middle School, Sebastian Middle School, Osceola Elementary School, Crookshank Elementary School, Webster Elementary School, St. Joseph Academy and Gaines were on a soft lock down after the shootings.

Deputies are expected to give an update.
