Multiple people killed in shooting at Ft. Lauderdale Airport

(2:25 p.m.) Shots were reportedly heard at a parking garage after a previous shooting left 5 passengers dead at the Ft. Lauderdale International Airport on Friday, Fox News reports.

Authorities are ordering passengers to get on the ground.

(2:30 p.m.) President-elect Donald Trump gives his condolences to the victims of the shooting via a Tweet and says he spoke with Florida Governor Rick Scott, who is traveling to the airport.

(2:33 p.m.) TSA confirmed that there is a second active shooter.

(2:45 p.m.) Air Canada releases a statement on its flights that landed in Ft. Lauderdale.

(3:04 p.m.) Delta CEO Ed Bastian extends his condolences following reports of the shooting. Delta to offer waivers to customers.

(3:30 p.m.) Broward County Sheriff said there is only one suspect. During the shooting, Sheriff Scott Isreal said shots were only fired on the downstairs floor of terminal 1. He said the suspect had a firearm in a checked bag when he opened fire the terminal. The suspect reportedly ran into a bathroom. The suspect then ran out of the bathroom and opened fire again.

Multiple people are dead after a shooting at the Delta Airlines baggage area at Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport on Friday, the Palm Beach Post reported.

There's reportedly 5 people dead and 8 injured.

Authorities said they have a suspect in custody and that he is a lone shooter, CNN said.

The suspect is Esteban Santiago-Ruiz, according to the military ID badge that authorities found on the suspect.

Air Canada said there are no records of that name or any checked bags under that name.

The entire airport has been shut down. Tri-Rail has suspended service to the airport. Terminal 2 around gates D4 and D5 at the northside of the airport have been evacuated.

A flight from Jacksonville to Ft. Lauderdale was in the air when the shooting occurred. The flight from the airport to Jacksonville, a JetBlue flight scheduled for 4:20 p.m. Friday, was canceled.

The Jacksonville International Airport said operations were running normally Friday, but was is increased law enforcement.

Former presidential spokesman Ari Fleisher reported that passengers were hustled back to their planes amid the confusion.

Florida Gov. Rick Scott shared information on other resources available for those affected by the shooting, such as lodging.

On Friday night, passengers were able to get off planes after being stuck on the tarmac for several hours. City buses were pulling up to pick up the thousands of people waiting to reunite with their loved ones.

Action News Jax spoke to a woman who said she was stuck on the tarmac for about five hours and had to wait another two hours for a bus.

The airport is still shut down, but the airport director said they expect to be back up and running by 5 a.m. Saturday.

The FBI said it has not ruled out terrorism as a cause of the shooting. The FBI is still processing the scene and said it is too early in the investigation to know why the shooter came to Florida and Alaska.
