The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office is investigating a shooting, which happened not far from the fairgrounds, that injured an 18-year-old Saturday.

Officers went to the Avenue Market on A. Philip Randolph Boulevard about 11:10 p.m. after hearing gunshots.

JSO officers said they found five vehicles that were struck by bullets.

Shortly after, an 18-year-old man arrived at UF health with a single gunshot wound to his back.

The victim told police he was driving in a vehicle when he was shot.

Police said they do not have any information to suggest that the shooting was in any way connected to the fair, despite it being about one-tenth of a mile from the fairgrounds.

Action News Jax reached out to the Sheriff’s Office to find if it plans to increase security at or around the fair because of the shooting.

JSO sent us a statement ,saying it takes serious the obligation to make events, like the fair, as safe as possible for the community.

The Sheriff’s Office said security plans are devised for both inside and outside of the fairgrounds.

While JSO can’t discuss those plans in detail, it will continue to monitor this, or any event daily and make any necessary adjustments to staffing as needed.

JSO has not released a suspect description. If you have any information, JSO asks that you contact the department or Crime Stoppers.
