SJSO identifies body found floating in Intracoastal Waterway

ST. JOHNS COUNTY, Fla. — 8/6/19 UPDATE: Officials have identified the body found as Clayton Allen, 43.

"Allen is believed to be transient within St. Johns County, with last known addresses in the western region of the U.S. and Texas. The cause of death is currently pending the return of toxicology results (which could take a month to be returned from the lab), however, no signs of foul play have been noted in the investigation at this time," the St. Johns County Sheriff's Office said.

The St. Johns County Sheriff's Office reported that a boater found a body floating in the Intracoastal Waterway Friday morning near Butler Beach.

The report said that the citizen boater contacted a nearby Customs and Border Protection boat and officials aboard "confirmed and secured the discovery."

Detectives investigating the death said no obvious signs of foul play are present, but the cause of death is unknown and there haven't been any people reported missing in the area.

The person found was described as a 5-foot, 8-inch to 5-foot, 10-inch white male, who was 45 to 55 years old, with a slender and athletic build, brown hair and a full graying beard. He was found wearing a pair of red and gray swim shorts.

Police are asking for anyone with any information regarding the possible identity of the man to call Detective Eric Schoenfeld at 904-295-6551.
