St. Johns County deputies help man propose to girlfriend during fake traffic stop

A St. Johns County man enlisted sheriff's deputies to help him propose to his girlfriend on Sunday.

Jason DePalma said he asked a corporal with St. Johns County Sheriff's Office if deputies could help him propose to his girlfriend of three years.

Video shows the couple driving on Ponte Vedra Lakes Boulevard when DePalma runs a stop sign.

"You blew through it!" Sarah Moody says in the video.

Two deputies pulled DePalma over and ordered the couple out of the vehicle -- Moody first, then DePalma.

Deputies told DePalma to get down on the ground.

He got down on one knee and took a ring out of his pocket.

"Babe, you have been the most amazing thing that has come in my life. Will you spend the rest of it with me?" he asked.

Moody was shocked -- and said yes!

DePalma said he is very grateful to the St. Johns County Sheriff's Office for helping him propose.

He said he didn't mean to run the stop sign. He said he did it because he was so nervous about the proposal.

He said deputies gave him a warning and told him not to do it again.
