Surveillance video: Dozens take cover as shots fired during Art Walk in Jacksonville

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Surveillance video from a business in downtown Jacksonville shows moments when dozens rushed to take cover during a shooting.

Police said the shots were fired in the area of North Laura and West Bay streets around 9:30 p.m. Wednesday. The downtown Jacksonville Art Walk, which takes place on the first Wednesday of every month, was happening in the area at the time.

The surveillance video from Jimmy Johns shows people running inside and dropping to the ground. The people were seen taking cover for about two minutes.

Investigators say two juvenile boys were shot.

Two teen boys were shot on Laura Street during the incident, police said. One of the victims was found near the Art Walk and the other was found inside a restaurant at The Landing, where police say he ran to.

Investigators said both boys were taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Action News Jax spoke to Keith Pineda, who was inside the Jimmy Johns during the shooting.

“I ducked toward the wall,” Pineda said. “There’s a lot of people actually ducking, and so many people on the floor. I just wanted to make sure they weren’t going to get hit by any chance.”

There is no suspect description and it’s unclear how many shots were fired.

“I hope what happened last night doesn’t deter people from coming downtown to participate in art walk, because  so many families, so many friends are starting to come back to downtown,” said business owner Sylivia Walker.
