Town of Orange Park's Nuisance Abatement Board votes to close Rodeway Inn

ORANGE PARK, Fla. — After being granted additional time to comply with safety and health issues, the Town of Orange Park Nuisance Abatement Board voted on Monday night to close the Rodeway Inn at 300 Park Avenue.

The motel was originally declared a nuisance property on Feb. 2 and the motel's closure was originally ordered on Sept. 21, but the motel's ownership was given more time to fix issues, according to a release from the Town of Orange Park.

From Dec. 1, 2014 to Dec. 2015, the Orange Park Police Department responded to 600 calls for service. The Town ordered the motel's owners to install security cameras, lights and fencing, and also cease accepting cash for payment.

However, "significant threats to the safety and health of the tenants, guests, and staff remain," according to the release.

The Town of Orange Park is working with the group Changing Homelesness to assist the Rodeway Inn's long-term residents who want help in finding a new home.
