Two arrested in connection with Ponte Vedra home invasion, kidnapping

A second suspect in connection to the Ponte Vedra Beach home invasion and possible kidnapping was arrested on Thursday.

Omar Lee Summerfield, 32, of Jacksonville is charged with accessory to false imprisonment, grand theft auto and home invasion robbery with a firearm. He was booked into the St. Johns County Jail on a $45,000 bond.

Deputies said they responded Jan. 9 to a home on Great Harbor Way in Ponte Vedra Beach in reference to a home invasion robbery and possible kidnapping.

The two victims answered a knock on their door shortly before midnight and were confronted by two males with handguns, authorities said.

Deputies said the men forcibly entered the home and ordered the victims to stay in one area while they robbed the home. The suspects fled in the victims' car, authorities said.

The first suspect arrested was Kyle Andre Justin Byrd, 22. Detectives said they picked him up in Baldwin four days after the invasion on violation of probation warrant from the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office.

He was taken to the St. Johns County Sheriff’s Office on Feb. 3 and charged with home invasion robbery with a firearm, grand theft auto and false imprisonment.

He remains in the St. Johns County Jail.

Deputies said they're still looking for more people involved in the home invasion.
