Uber, JAA reach agreement over customer pickup fees

A standoff between transportation app Uber and Jacksonville’s main airport over a per-trip fee has come to an end.

The Jacksonville Aviation Authority released a statement Friday that said service will not be interrupted for Uber riders.

According to JAA Vice President John Finotti, the contract should be signed and executed within a week.

Uber released a statement regarding the details of the agreement saying that the pickup fees for transportation network companies and taxi companies will now be $2.50, with fees changing to $3.25 for both beginning on September 1, 2017.

"Earlier today, Uber and the Jacksonville Aviation Authority reached an agreement in principle regarding pickup fees and an operating agreement at Jacksonville International Airport.

"We thank the airport's leadership for working to ensure that Jacksonville residents continue to have access to affordable and reliable transportation options, said Kasra Moshkani, General Manager for Uber Florida.

Uber was claiming airport leaders were making them charge customers more for the same service  taxi companies offer.

Public affairs manager for Uber in Florida Javi Correoso said JIA was charging Uber $3.25, while Gator City cab pays $2.50 for the per-trip fee.

In July, the Florida legislature passed House Bill 221, which Uber says regulates ride sharing throughout Florida.

This bill showcases that airports and sea ports are allowed to charge pickup fees, but Uber managers say these companies have to be consistent with their fees for transportation network companies like Uber and taxi companies.

“We are willing to pay fees at the airport, but we are just asking the leadership at the airport to be fair,” said Correoso.
