JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — A man is recovering after being shot in the leg early Friday morning.
The victim, Zachary Patchy, told Action News Jax about why he felt compelled to come back to the home where paramedics found him.
Patchy said he stopped at the house on Venus Street looking for help.
Patchy said he wants to show his appreciation to the good Samaritan who gave him the ultimate gift, a second chance at life.
“I just want to tell him thank you,” Patchy said. “It wasn’t something he had to do, and I really appreciate it at the same time.”
Patchy said he was outside a friend’s house on Stuart Street when he heard gunshots and started running for cover.
Soon after, Patchy said he noticed he was shot in the thigh and stopped at the home looking for help.
Investigators said they don't have any suspect information and that Patchy wasn't cooperating with police. He said he wasn't talking to police, "because it really ain't too much to talk about it. Everything has been said and done."
Anyone who has any information about the incident is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 866-845-TIPS. You can remain anonymous and receive a possible reward of up to $3,000.
