Woman killed in Clay triple shooting had restraining order against suspect

One of the victims in a triple shooting in Clay County on Tuesday had a restraining order against the man accused of killing her, her father and his ex-wife.

Shelly Hodges said Murray Lancaster came to Keeping it Classy and held it up at gunpoint before he took his ex-girlfriend Valorie Short from the salon Tuesday morning.

Valerie Short had a restraining order against 41-year-old Lancaster. The two had dated for approximately two years.

Lancaster took Valorie Short to her father Buddy Short’s workplace and shot and killed them both there, according to Clay County Sheriff’s Office.

Lancaster then went to the Rosemary Hill landfill, where his ex-wife Erica Green worked, and shot and killed her, deputies said.

Lancaster was found dead after he shot himself inside a trailer on 1720 Idlewild Avenue hours after the shootings.

A no contact order was filed in March that said Lancaster could not be within 500 feet of Short. A court hearing about the restraining order was scheduled for Tuesday.

Valorie Short filed the restraining order after she and Lancaster got into an argument on March 15.

Valorie Short didn't want Lancaster to drive and refused to give him his keys because he'd been drinking.

Lancaster grabbed her wrist and shoved her against a pole, according to the police report.

Valorie Short told deputies Lancaster held her against the pole with his arm and put his elbow on her neck.

Valorie Short's dad came over from next door and yelled at Lancaster to get his hands off Valorie Short.

Her father and Lancaster began yelling at each other and were about to fight, Valorie told deputies.

When deputies tried to talk with Lancaster, he kept yelling at Valorie's dad.

Lancaster ignored deputies' instructions and advanced at them in an aggressive manner with his fists balled up, according to report.

He jumped and 'flenched' toward deputies as if he were going to fight them several times.

He was arrested and charged with battery and resisting officers without violence.
