Brooke Sanders was one of the first to help a 13-year old boy who was bitten by a shark Sunday at Neptune Beach.

She said she was in the water when she heard screams.

“We saw there was blood in the water, and so we went over to him,” said Sanders. “He was trying to tell me where his parents were.”

She said she grabbed the teen while her friend went to get help.

“I knew someone had to help him,” she said.

The teen, who has not been identified, was taken to the hospital. His injuries aren’t considered life-threatening.

He was bitten while in 2 feet of water. The shark was believed to be about 6 feet long.

It happened near Lemon Street around 3 p.m. One witness told Action News Jax he Sanders carry the boy from the water.

"This lady runs in the water carries this boy," said Lou DeMark. "All you see is just blood, dripping and dripping out for about 50 feet."

Another witness said he saw first responders bandaging the teen's leg.

"The father got on top of his son and was trying to calm him down," said Frank Gamble. "While he was talking to him, he says, 'I can’t feel my toes' or something, so he was hurting."

Last Saturday, an 11-year-old girl was badly bitten by a shark at Huguenot Park, which is approximately 8 miles north of where the boy was bitten.
