Woman scammed out of $1,500 by fence company

The last few weeks for Sherri Waller have been frustrating.

She said she hired M&M Fences to build a long fence around her property. But there’s no fence.

She said that’s because a man named Luis Michael Maldonado scammed her.

She said she wrote him a check for $1,500.

“He was supposed to be out here the next morning … about 8 a.m.,  but I didn’t hear from him,”Waller said.

After multiple calls and emails, he still didn’t respond.

Action News Jax also called him and left a voicemail.

“Now I’m thinking, ‘OK, he’s not coming back,’” Waller said.

She filed a police report and learned there were at least six other cases similar to hers in the last two years.

Action News Jax went to the Better Business Bureau’s website and found the business was given a “C” rating.

There were complaints, including one in which someone claimed Maldonado collected $1,075 and hadn’t been seen since.

Deputies said this is an active criminal investigation.

Waller said she feels at this point it’s her duty to warn others about what she and others say they went through.
