Woman's 1966 Ford Mustang stolen in Jacksonville's Oceanway neighborhood

A Jacksonville woman said the classic car she’s owned since she was 15 has been stolen. Now she’s asking for the public’s help in finding her 1966 Ford Mustang coupe.

Jennifer Adamson said the car had been stored in a locked garage.

The most confusing part to her: She said when it was discovered that the car was missing, the garage and all its doors were completely locked up like nothing had been touched.

Adamson said her parents gave her the car for her 15th birthday. Nearly 30 years and many memories later, she said it was stolen out of the garage.

“My husband was here doing some work, and he opened the door to put the lawnmower away and noticed the car was just missing and called me and told me immediately and I was just kind of in shock,” Adamson said.

Adamson had seen the Mustang just one week ago inside the garage on the property she owns. But the garage is always locked up and she says only she has the key.

Even after the car was stolen, she said nothing looked out of place. On top of that, Adamson said police told her fingerprints would be hard to collect on the uneven surface of the garage. She said the thieves responsible knew what they were doing.

“This one is a little hard to start sometimes, especially since it hasn’t been driven in like two months actually, so that’s another surprising thing that they were able to like start it in a short period of time, obviously,” Adamson said.

Adamson said the financial hit pales in comparison to the sentimental value the car holds.

“You know one thing is the car’s gone, and it doesn’t mean as much to anyone else but me, but the other is, you’re not safe anywhere,” Adamson said.

Adamson believes the thieves may have picked the lock on a door to the garage to get in or even found a way through this window.

She said she’s offering a $1,000 reward for information that leads to an arrest.
