ST. JOHNS COUNTY, Fla. — The man accused of killing a deputy's K-9 partner in St. Johns County surrendered.
Brandon Allison turned himself in to US marshals and deputies with the St. Johns County Sheriff's Office Wednesday afternoon.
He surrendered at a church, a location of his choosing, said investigators.
Family members convinced him to surrender, according to the St. Johns County Sheriff's Office.
Authorities had been looking for Allison since early Tuesday when deputies responded to a disturbance call.
Allison, according to investigators, ran off.
The K-9 named Baron gave chase.
Baron's handler said she heard her partner engage the male suspect, then discovered the unresponsive dog in shallow water. Baron died later at a veterinarian hospital.
Authorities had a warrant out for Allison's arrest on drug charges related to the sale of cocaine.
The Sheriff's Office says more charges are pending. As of Wednesday night, Allison had not been booked in jail yet. His first court appearance was scheduled for 8:30 a.m. Thursday with Judge Charles Tinlin.
Funeral services for Baron will be held sometime next week.
