Baby dies on first day at day care

LEHIGH TOWNSHIP, Pa. — A family is looking for answers after a 3-month-old girl mysteriously died on her first day of day care.

McKenna Felmly's mother, Adrienne Kromer, left her daughter at day care as she went back to work following a three and a half month maternity leave, according to KTLA.

McKenna's father, Bryan Felmly, said Kromer was at work when the day care told her McKenna was having difficulty taking a bottle.

"Adrienne asked the day care to syringe feed her since she only had 2 ounces since the time she was dropped off in the morning. Whether or not she did, we don't know," Felmly wrote on a GoFundMe page.

Kromer called the day care for another update when she was told her daughter went to sleep quickly, which Femly said was unlike McKenna.

Kromer decided to leave work early and go to the day care. On the way there, the day care called her and told her McKenna was not breathing.

McKenna was in transport to the hospital by the time Kromer got to the day care.

The baby was pronounced dead when she arrived at a nearby hospital.

The Morning Call reported that the Carbon County coroner's office said the baby showed no signs of trauma.

"We are continuing to conduct interviews with family, friends, and employees of the day care," Police Chief Scott Fogel told Lehigh Valley Live. "We still have some work to finish yet. I can't say when we will determine manner of death."

McKenna's funeral service was Saturday.

A GoFundMe page has been set up by Femly to help with funeral expenses and other costs. It has more than doubled its $5,000 goal.
