Blind Florida woman reportedly regains sight after fall, surgery

(WPBF)

Before Mary Ann Franco, of Okeechobee, Fla., underwent an operation for a neck problem, she had lived for more than 20 years without eyesight.

But, when Franco woke up after a recent surgery, everything had changed. She could see the world again, in full color, WPBF reports.

Franco suffered multiple injuries in a serious car accident in 1995, including damage to her spine. Her vision darkened and disappeared in the following days.

“It went blackish gray,” she told WPBF. “And I couldn’t see anything.”

Franco recently took a fall in her home, and required surgery to correct her neck pain. The operation had an unexpected side effect -- it restored her vision.

WPBF reports that before her 1995 accident, Franco was also color blind, but that's no longer the case. Her doctor calls it a miracle.

“I’ve never seen it, never heard of it," Dr. John Afshar said.
