Booking domestic flights during the summer can be significantly pricier than traveling during the fall and winter months.

And Cheap Flight Day is the first day to see dramatically lower prices on airfare. According to ABC News, it's generally the day fares drop on most routes.

The day is August 23, a date by which most children are back in school and leisurely travel begins to decrease.

Flight prices can drop anywhere from 10 to 20 percent, ABC News reported. Southwest Airlines and United Airlines are among the carriers that have already advertised discounted flights.

The period of cheaper flights lasts until Thanksgiving, when high demand for holiday travel increase the demand for flights again.
