Jacksonville Suns to change name to Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — The Jacksonville Suns will be holding a "major media event" on Wednesday morning, and that event will entail an announcement that the team will change its name.

The Jacksonville Suns will become the Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp. The name change was first reported in an article from T-U Sports Columnist Gene Frenette.

The team, which is the AA affiliate of the Miami Marlins, was purchased in 2015 by Ken Babby in 2015 from longtime owner Peter Bragan Jr.

"It's a gritty, tough, hard-working shrimp," Babby told the Times-Union. "The word that probably best describes it is tenacious."
