1 killed in crash on Cassat Avenue and Yerkes Street, knocks down power lines

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — UPDATED 12:15 p.m.:

At 10 a.m. a Ford Fusion was traveling northbound on Cassat Avenue.

The driver lost control at the intersection of Park and Cassat Avenue, with the car crossing into southbound traffic before crashing into a cyclone fence.

The top railing of the cyclone fence penetrated the windshield and struck the driver through the chest.

The driver of the car was a 40-year-old male who was driving his two children, a 7-year-old boy and a 6-year-old girl. Both children suffered from minor injuries and have been transported to the hospital.

The driver was pronounced dead.

Speed and the weather were possible factors in this crash.

107 people have died on roads so far in Jacksonville this year.
