'Mommy there's a gator in the pond': Local mom says gator approaches son in Duclay neighborhood

JACKNSONVILLE, Fla. — A mother in Jacksonville’s Duclay neighborhood is worried about an alligators she said has approached her son multiple times.

Tuesday, Jennifer Ball told Action News Jax, “I’m just worried that the gator is going to come up and snatch my little child.”

She explained her 10 year old spends hours everyday fishing at a pond just yards away from her home on Duclay Drive.

The mom described, “He came and ran one day and said ‘mommy there’s a gator in the pond’ and we came down here and there’s a gator in the pond.”

Neighbors said the’ve also spotted the 5 foot gator.

According to Ball the reptile has been reported to Florida Fish and Wildlife.

As of Tuesday she hadn’t heard back.

They explained they don’t send trappers out unless alligators show aggression towards people or attack pets.

Ball said until the gator is gone she’s taking extra safety precautions with her son.

FWC recommends everyone avoid bodies of water at dawn and dusk when alligators are most active.
