1 killed, 3 arrested after authorities serve drug warrant

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — A man is dead and three others arrested after a high-risk warrant was served in the Woodland Acres neighborhood.

SWAT was present when the high-risk warrant was served Wednesday because it is protocol. The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office said officers could hear a woman talking in the home, but did not receive a response at the door.

SWAT officers went into the home where a man walked into the room with a loaded gun, JSO said.

An officer fired five times from the doorway, striking Jeremy Graham four times in the chest and once in the hand, JSO said. The officer is a 12-year veteran of the JSO and an 8-year veteran of the SWAT team.

Graham died from his injuries.

There were three other adults in the home at the time of the incident. JSO said all three admitted to knowing that there were weapons in the home, knew Graham was usually armed and knew he was a convicted felon and shouldn't have a gun.

"The other three adults that were in the house were arrested for a variety of charges," said JSO Director Mike Bruno.

The three adults arrested are Edward Williams, Patricia Winget and Patricia Graham.

JSO said officers found additional weapons in the room where the suspect confronted police.

Drugs were found all over the house, JSO said. At the time of the incident, the people were cooking crack cocaine and an officer had to turn off the stove.

Two boys were in the home, ages 5 and 7. JSO said the boys were not in danger and were escorted out of the home.

"We recognize our goal is to minimize the impact to these children. These children are victims too," Bruno said. "(These children) are growing up in a crack house, and they have no say in this."

The mother of the boys was not in the home, and the boys were released to her. The Department of Children and Families was notified about the incident.
