2 arrested in St. Johns County cyber sting

ST. JOHNS COUNTY, Fla. — A Duval County man thought he was meeting up with a minor to have sex, but instead, know deputies were waiting for him, according to authorities.

Authorities say James Kellow sent messages to their undercover officers asking for sex and nude photos.

Commander Chuck Mulligan, with the St.Johns County Sheriff’s Office, said, “I think it would shock the conscience of many parents, especially those who have young daughters.”

Authorities say that Kellow and Cody Mercer are the latest to fall for the cyber sting targeting those who seduce minors online.

Mulligan tells Action News Jax, “You’ll find that about two weeks, we’re arresting about one to two people for this.”

He says this type of activity isn’t specific to the county.

“We’ve had them drive from Georgia, we’ve had them come from various states, from cities around us, Daytona to Jacksonville, and individuals from within our own county. So it’s not a geographic issue,” explains Mulligan.

He recommends parents review online safety with their children.
