80-90 foot tree falls in Southside couple's backyard

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — A tree about 90 feet tall toppled at about 10 p.m. Friday on Bellair Road on the Southside.

The man who rents the house said it sounded just like a tree snapping and the noise unnerved his wife.

It landed about 20 feet from the house.

He says neither one of them got much sleep after the tree came down.

Ed Mitchell says, “My wife got panicked, cause she heard it she thought it hit the house. So I came out and checked on it, she got all excited and I tried to calm her down... I hate to say it on camera but it was funny watching her panic, and I was already outside looking at it.”

Mitchell said he and his wife are worried that an even taller pine tree next to the one that fell might fall next and land on their house.

They said their landlord promised to send an arborist out to check on the trees.
