Aspiring young firefighter battling brain tumor gets special ride from Jacksonville firefighters

A local boy who is battling a brain tumor got a special ride Friday.

Action News Jax first told you about Riley Ruppert-Richendollar last year after he was diagnosed with a brain tumor.

We continued following his story as he required one year of chemotherapy treatment. In December, we were told the tumor had stopped growing.

Friday was his 52nd and final chemotherapy treatment.

To celebrate the occasion, firefighters with the Jacksonville Fire Rescue Department picked up the 8-year-old at his home.

The firefighters took young Riley to his final chemotherapy treatment.

Riley has always wanted to be a firefighter. He’s visited many of Jacksonville’s fire stations.

Recently, JFRD made Riley an honorary firefighter.

Before Riley left with the firefighters to go to Nemours Hospital, we spoke to both him and his father.

Riley said he was thankful.

“They took their time out of their day to come do this for me,” he said.

His father is also thankful, both for the doctors who helped treat Riley and the firefighters who have become his friends.

“We couldn’t do it without them,” said Robert Richendollar.
