Bystanders pull woman out of Green Cove Springs retention pond

GREEN COVE SPRINGS, Fla. — Two men pulled a woman out of her car after it went into a retention pond off Henley Road and County Road 209 on Tuesday night.

Clay County Fire Rescue and the Clay County Sheriff's Office got the call to respond just before 8 p.m.

Authorities tell Action News Jax that the driver's tire had a blowout and caused her to swerve off the road and into the pond.

The bystanders saw it happen and pulled her to safety. No one was hurt.

Action News Jax spoke to the driver of the car, who was startled, cold, wet and shivering, but was otherwise OK. She said she didn't even have the chance to ask the men who saved her their names, but she wanted to thank them for saving her life.

The driver told us she just wanted to go home, take a hot shower and hug her family and said she was very grateful she was able to make it out OK.

Law enforcement said it will be back to the retention pond at some point to retrieve the car.
