Car crash with serious injuries involves 8 cars, traps 2 people

CLAY COUNTY, Fla. — A serious crash Thursday afternoon blocked two northbound left lanes and the turn lane at the intersection of U.S. 17 and County Road 220 for a couple of hours. A southbound left lane was also blocked.

The crash happened around 2:40 .m. and involved eight vehicles, trapping at least two people.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, a freightliner driven by 53-year-old Harold McGill crashed into a 2008 Ford Explorer when failing to notice traffic slowing, which caused a chain reaction.

Six people were taken to the hospital for treatment of minor injuries.
