Clay County family desperate to find stolen iPhone with irreplaceable pictures

A Clay County family is desperate to get back a stolen smartphone that’s full of photos of their 10-year-old daughter, who died of cancer.

Action News Jax first told you about 10-year-old Aaliyah Mitchell’s battle back in 2015 when her family was trying to raise awareness for childhood cancers.

All her family has left are the memories. Many of them stored in a now stolen smartphone.

“The pictures are priceless. They are irreplaceable. They are of a child who fought for her life for the last 18 months of her life,” said Aaliyah’s mother, Heather Williams.

Williams says her boyfriend accidentally left his phone in a bathroom at work earlier this month.

No one returned it, so they filed a police report.

About 10 days later, Williams says, a woman called her boyfriend’s other phone  claiming she had the missing phone. That woman says she bought it from someone for $100 and the family can have it back at the same price.

"At that point I just explained to her that the phone had already been reported stolen and we would like the phone back. And yes it was important due to the fact that there were pictures of my daughter who had recently passed away on it," said Williams. "I was frustrated, I was aggravated, I was appalled, it hurts," she said.

Williams hopes her the story spreads throughout Northeast Florida and is hopeful the pictures of her daughter will be back where they belong soon.

“If nothing else maybe some family members or friends that are aware of who this woman is can say consider turning it in,” Williams.
