Community gathers to remember 2 women killed in Camden County crash

FOLKSTON, Ga. — On Thursday evening outside of Jerusalem Holiness Church, hundreds stood with pink and purple balloons, supporting one another as they wept for two young women killed in a car crash over the weekend.

Many tell Action News Jax that Nicoya Jackson and Jaqhayla Houston had been best friends for as long as they could remember.

The two died together while driving on Highway 40 in Camden County Saturday evening.

Investigators believe the driver of a pickup truck that hit the Toyota the young women were in had been drinking and they are still investigating.

Thursday evening, Pastor Terrance Pender opened Jerusalem Holiness Church to hundreds for an hour-long service followed by a candlelight vigil afterwards.

"Twenty-two and 23 years and the impact they put on this world," said Norris Milton Jr., who also spoke during the service, talking about Houston being like a little sister to him.

Houston was the girlfriend of Milton's brother Chris, who plays football for the Indianapolis Colts.

Renae Elmore spoke to our crew shortly after the candlelight vigil ended, crying over the loss of her cousin, Jackson, who she said was always smiling.

"This is so hard because we have never lost nobody and it's just hard to deal with this but I'm going to really miss her," said Elmore.

There will be a home-going service for the 2 women at 1 p.m. Saturday. That service will be at Charlton County High School where both women graduated.
