Deputies: Yulee toddler left house through pet door, drowned in pool

A toddler who drowned while in the care of a babysitter got out of the house through a pet door, deputies said.

Deputies told Action News Jax that a 16-year-old was watching an 18-month-old, 7-year-old and 8-year-old and no adults were home.

The boy was taken to a hospital after the reported drowning on Lents Road near Roses Bluff Road around 11 a.m. Tuesday.

The children the teen was watching are not siblings, Sheriff Bill Leeper said. The babysitter's siblings, a 14-year-old and a 6-year-old, were also in the home at the time.

The 18-month-old boy was in an above-ground pool outside a trailer, deputies said.

So far no one has been charged.

Deputies are still investigating.
