Expect to see tight security in downtown Jacksonville for holiday weekend events

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Daily’s Place has big plans for its opening weekend just four days away.

On Thursday, the Jacksonville Jazz Fest also kicks off its performances in downtown. Last year, the festival drew thousands over the long weekend.

But this year, both events come on the heels of yet another deadly terrorist attack, this time in Manchester, England.

While there are no known threats to Jacksonville, law enforcement agencies are not letting their guard down.

Jacksonville Transportation Authority CEO Nathaniel Ford said security will be top of mind.

“We work very closely with the TSA, particularly as it relates to our Skyway operation,” Ford said.

This weekend, the Skyway will have extended hours on Friday. It’ll also be open on Saturday and Sunday, but closed Monday for Memorial Day.

“We'll have the JSO out there like we normally do and our own in-house security staff,” said Ford.

You can expect to be screened with a metal detector, and have your bags checked at Daily’s Place.
