Fairfax homeowner cleans up after tree falls on house from effects of Hurricane Hermine

The impact of Hurricane Hermine has left some Northeast Florida homeowners dealing with toppled trees and downed power lines.

Glenda Collier showed Action News Jax damage to the roof inside her Fairfax home.

Collier said a large tree fell on it Friday morning, leaving a hole in the roof.

“It’s considered hurricane damage,” Collier said.

Collier said luckily no one was hurt because no one was home when it happened.

“The neighbor called and said, ‘are you home?” I said, ‘no we’re having breakfast,’ and she said, ‘a tree fell on your house.’”

Collier said the neighbor then texted her photos showing the tree right on top of her house.

Once Collier went inside, she said she found the worst of the damage in one of the bedrooms.

“I thought, 'Well I better check the bedrooms,'” Collier said. “I went in the guest bedroom and there is a limb sticking through the roof."

Collier said her insurance agency is covering the damage but the cleanup is far from over.

“You have to come home and your house is topsy-turvy and stuff all over the place,” Collier said. “It’ll be forever just trying to sweep up, clean up.”
