Family of Jacksonville father killed in shootout: 'This was senseless'

Jacksonville police are searching for multiple gunmen after two fathers were killed on Saturday.

Dorian Brown leaves behind three children. He would be celebrating his 28th birthday Tuesday.

The second victim, 30-year-old Darnell Dues, also had two boys.

The two men were watching football near W. 28th and Stuart streets in Moncrief when they were gunned down.

Brown’s sister Erica said she is heartbroken.

“He didn’t hurt nobody,” she said. “My brother was a good man, and his birthday is coming and he’s not even here.”

Exclusive video shows the chaos during the shooting.

Action News Jax has been going through crime-mapping data through the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office and found police have been called to within a half mile of this area at least 45 times in the last five months.

More than 30 of the calls were for assault. The crime mapping showed there have also been nine robberies and another murder.

Police haven’t given a motive for this or any specific suspect information, but Brown has a message for the shooters.

“This was senseless,” Brown said. “You all didn’t have to kill my brother like that ... He was a good man. He had just started his own [lawn care] business. He has three children. This doesn’t make any sense.”
