FHP: 101 crashes on Buckman Bridge in a year

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Wednesday's deadly crash on the Buckman Bridge was the 101st crash on the bridge in a year.

A black pickup truck being pulled from the St. Johns River and its driver dead in the waters below -- the images have other drivers like Rose Lott wondering if that could happen to them.

"Yeah, I think about that all the time," she said. The driver of that pickup has been identified as William Maddox, 48, of Tampa.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, a Toyota Scion drive by Andrew McPhun, 22, hit the pickup, forcing Maddox to lose control of his vehicle.

Action News obtained a map from FHP with yellow dots showing crash sites on the bridge since July 1, 2013. Total count -- 101.

FHP said it will be weeks before we know if McPhun will be cited for the crash.

Action News obtained McPhun's driving record. He has been cited before for speeding, driving without carrying a license and for not having insurance.
